A great Social Night was enjoyed by Club Members and Partners at the annual croquet challenge, Members of the Busselton Croquet Club guided those attending through the intricacies of the game and a lot of fun was had until thunder and lighting saw an early end to the event. Still this allowed for an early start at a local resturant where plenty of boasting took place. A great evening!

In these difficult economic times, Busselton Geographe Bay Rotary is trying hard to keep the cost of membership down.
For the 2022/2023 year, we're giving new members a 50% discount on their annual dues - a saving of $125.
The Club recently organised another successful Movie Night at the Orana Cinemas Busselton.
Patron got to enjoy a class of wine, cheese and biscuits and a choc bomb or popcorn as well as the movie "Where The Crawdaddy's Sing".
Over $2,000 was raised to assist local mental health support services.
The Rotary Club of Busselton Geographe Bay will receive a $20,000 grant from the City of Busselton towards its Shelterbags project after it was voted the favourite local project in a City of Busselton program that allowed the community to delegate funding. Rotary is raising enough money to import a container of 750 swag like waterproof shelter bags to provide to rough sleepers in the South West. The club has already dedicated $10,000 to the project and is confident of raising the addition funds to pay for the container. The $20,000 will be a positive step towards this.
The Busselton Geographe Bay Rotary Club had extra organisational issues this year because of Covid Rules but this did not stop the club organising two successful stalls at the Festival of Busselton Petticoat Lane evening and running the Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony and Barbecue Breakfast for nearly 600 people down on the Foreshore. Well done to all the volunteers on the day.

Another successful fund raiser for Busselton Geographe Bay Rotary. Movie night for the new James Bond film, raising funds for Australian Rotary Health Research into Mental Illness. Great night and approximately $2,200 raised.
The Club ran a successful Trivia Quiz Night in November to raise funds for Kids Cancer Research and support those little superhero kids suffering suffering from cancer.
Great fun was had by all and generous sponsors allowed the club to have plenty of prizes to give away on the night. Our thanks to all who attended and assisted in us raising $3,500 for the Kids Cancer Project.

It is with great sorrow that we acknowledge the passing of Eric after a long and valiant fight with illness.
Eric was a member of Rotary for over 35 years and we all knew him as a true gentleman and a quiet achiever.
His loss will not only be felt by our Club, but also by Rotarian Rose Harrington, with whom he was planning a happy future.

The Rotary Club has recently supported a successful "Between the Lines" Literature Festival Family Day. The day had author workshops, reading spots, live podcasts and competitions and activities; aimed at developing and maintaining children's interest in reading, writing and other aspects of literature. Organised locally by Dymocks, the club assisted by sponsoring authors to attend to run workshops and also ran a popular sausage sizzle and Rotary Youth Programs information stall.
Four Busselton teenagers are set to experience a challenging week on board the Sail Training Ship Leeuwin II, with sponsorship support from our club.
The four high school students will embark on 7-day Youth Explorer voyages which will expose them to a variety of sail training activities, including setting and furling sails, climbing the masts, working aloft and keeping watch at night.
Sixteen-year-olds James and Xavier and 15-year-olds Luke and Tiernan managed a pre-voyage visit to the Leeuwin when it docked in Busselton last week. They’re pictured with Leeuwin skipper Angela Lewis and our very own Shelley O’Brien (with the flyaway tresses).
Xavier and Luke will re-join the ship in Bunbury on Wednesday for their voyage to Fremantle. James and Tiernan will sail from Fremantle to Monkey Mia in April.

The annual South West Bike Trek, a major fund-raiser for children’s leukaemia research, was held recently.
Some 20 riders took part in the 600km week-long ride from Perth to Augusta.
Once again, our club supported the event by hosting a BBQ dinner for the riders at the Men’s Shed.
President Chris White presented a $1000 donation from our club, plus the $137 proceeds from our fines session the previous night.

The Rotary Club of Busselton Geographe Bay has had a recent influx of new members. The Club welcomes Rachael, Tyra, Julia and Debbie. We are more than happy to have you share our fun, fellowship and community service with us.
Global virus pandemics are not new. Before vaccines were developed for polio in the 1950s, parents were gripped by terror: over 1,000 children were dying or being paralysed each day. Now, polio is a distant memory in most countries, but it persists in a few. The problem is that until we completely eradicate the poliovirus, children everywhere remain at risk. This has been a major focus of Rotary for more than 30 years. To continue this work clubs from all over Australia and New Zealand have been participating in Walks to Eradicate Polio. Involving their local community and raising funds for the continued fight. The Busselton Gerographe Bay Rotary Club recently did its bit by organising a walk from Sugarloaf Rock to the Lighthouse and Back. Well done to all those who organised the event and participated.
This year the club is trying to have a social night every month to bring members and partners closer together and create a healthy balance between the club's community service projects work and enjoying being part of a diverse and vibrant club. So far the club has held a successful Pasta Night and a Ten Pin Bowling Night in Bunbury. Looking further forward will be a BBQ at the Busselton Mens Shed with a display of vintage motorcycles and a Sundowner at the Yacht Club when the weather warms up. Finishing up the calendar year with a Christmas Lunch at Wise Winery. - Rotary Clubs - having fun while doing good in the world!
The Rotary Club of Busselton Geographe Bay has teamed up with students at Busselton’s St Mary MacKillop College to improve the lives of local dementia patients – with music therapy.
The Club has organised the purchase of 40 audio headsets - with funds raised by the students and a donation from the Rotary club - for distribution to dementia patients in Busselton’s aged care facilities.

The Rotary Club of Busselton Geographe Bay was not been able to meet as normal during the COVID 19 Pandemic. But like a lot of other Rotary Clubs, members kept in touch using Zoom technology.
The Rotary Club of Busselton Geographe Bay has teamed up with the local Dominos franchise to offer some “pizza therapy” for the hard-pressed staff of Busselton’s three aged-care facilities.
The Club may not be able to meet at the moment but it can still help in the local community. The Busselton Geographe Bay Rotary Club has donated $500 in vouchers to Jacquie Happ of the Dunsborough Progress Assn to purchase food basics for some of the many out of work hospitality workers in the Dunsborough Area. Dunsborough businesses employ a large number of seasonal tourism workers who are doing it tough because of Covid 19 restrictions.
The Rotary Club of Busselton Geographe Bay has once again assisted the City of Busselton in another Australia Day Celebration including a Citizenship Ceremony, Entertainment and an Aussie Barbecue Breakfast for over a thousand people. Great effort.
